Government Policy closure of all Auction Houses

COVID-19: our current situation

On 23rd March, HM Government ordered the closure of UK Auction Houses to the public in order to help the country in fighting COVID-19.

Accepting sale entries – Postal entries of gold, silver, jewellery, watches, coins, medals and small collectables can still be sent to our Watlington saleroom. Please include your contact details, any notes about the items and any specific requests. Sorry, but we are unable to receive entries directly from the public during this lockdown closure.

Completing professional valuations – Antiques valuations have been deemed ‘essential’ by probate professionals, executors and/or the courts, a bespoke Private Client service will be tailored to circumstances. All valuations will continue to follow RICS Red Book standards & guidelines. Contact Simon Jones on 07874 307176 or email

Free auction appraisals – Please make the most of our FREE auction appraisal by sending images of your items to Simon Jones at for guidance and estimate. These will enable us to provide an estimated guide price of your antique or collectable for possible inclusion within our next sale day catalogue.

Forthcoming sale days – The entire ‘physical’ sale program is now postponed until the COVID-19 risk can be managed safely for staff and public. Our published sale programme will resume shortly after the Government removes the restrictions. Additional ONLINE ONLY auctions may be introduced where the auction content is suited to that method of sale.

Please continue to contact us by email at For more urgent matters please do contact us by phone on 07874 307176. Please DO NOT use as this will be unmonitored for the duration. Also note that we DO NOT use Social Media channels such as Facebook or Twitter.

These are very troubling times and I am sure we will get through them, but I fear it will be a long time before we are back in action. In the meantime keep your distance and stay well.

Fine Art & Antiques auctions in the Home Counties

About Jones & Jacob

Since 1802, Jones & Jacob, and our predecessors, have been hosting regular fine art and antique auctions in Oxfordshire, and providing antiques valuations for specialist buyers and sellers around the London area. Over 200 years later, we continue to provide auction facilities, insurance valuations and probate valuations, for antiques traders, collectors, probate lawyers and individuals throughout the UK.

We operate a full sales calendar at our Oxfordshire saleroom, with regular two day fine art and antiques auctions. Auction catalogues are available to view online and are updated regularly with detailed photo galleries, descriptions and guide prices. The saleroom is open weekdays, 9.00am to 4.00pm, to receive items for sale, and for valuations and auctions advice. Prior to sale day, viewings are at advertised times (see individual auction details) and on the morning of the sale itself.
