Inheritance Tax Assessment (IHTA) for solicitors, executors and beneficiaries
We provide a complete probate valuation service for the purposes of assessing an Inheritance Tax provision for executors, solicitors and trustees. We have a rapid turnaround time and our charges are time-based. Most IHTA valuations will cost in the region of £600 plus VAT.
Regulatory considerations
Recent changes in the way that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) deal with probate valuations has increased the need for detailed inventories to satisfy the conditions of IHTA 1984 – Section 160. Our probate valuations will help with the completion of IHTA 400.
We have been providing probate valuations for over 30 years and have extensive access to all of the major databases which provide the most up-to-date information available for antiques and fine art. We comply with, and follow, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) valuation standards, the ‘Red Book’, guidance on valuation preparation.
Valuation process
We recommend that general view photographs of the rooms be taken, together with more detailed images of any specific higher value items in the estate. These are kept on record for clients to access, should the need arise.
Probate valuation enquiry form
For an express valuation service for an individual item you can complete our valuation enquiry form with as much detail as possible, attaching a photo if available, and we will respond with our opinion as soon as we possibly can.
If you wish to speak to one of our specialist valuation experts directly you can contact us on 01491 612810 or email [email protected].
We have produced a handy Guide for Executors, trustees and beneficiaries of an estate with valuable information to help you with your duties, and specific information on the valuation of an estates’ contents.
